First of all, I GOT A TENT!!! I didn’t expect a tent at all. I arrived with my card table, my black table cloth, two stools, a hat, and a bottle of sunblock. Not the sissy stuff either. This was SPF “black tarp”. When I arrived I was escorted to a covered banquet table under a tent. Thank you Glazer’s for that unexpected surprise. And speaking of surprises, check out the pictures. We had a glimpse at a prototype Mclaren– the only one in the country. We had two days of classes that included lighting a model on a Ducati to nature photography from Tamron Representative Ken Hubbard. 30-some vendors spread out between tents on the street in front of Glazer’s to those inside a giant tent in a parking lot. Slr’s, film, wooden tripods, the newest in developer chemicals, oh… wait… That was last year. DSlr’s, memory cards, carbon fiber tripods, lighting, cameras, lenses and pretty much anything else photographic you could think of was there. We had people who started the morning on Saturday and left when the vendors did that evening to a group of young women out on a morning run, “just running through”.

To my booth I had upwards of 100 people stop by over the two days. I met so many great people and the vast majority were favorable and supportive of my product, the GH-13 Gimbal. I met several representatives from local and distant camera stores and product lines.

To those of you who were at the event, thank you for making it so successful! To those who came to my tent, thank you for so many compliments and encouraging words. To the engineer who gave me a few hints, I’m running with them. And of course, to the Glazer’s staff, thank you so much for letting me be part of Photofest! I GOT A TENT! WOOHOO!

I spent a week in Eastern, Washington and hiked and biked into several interesting areas. Since I was primarily searching for Sharp-Tailed Grouse, I was packing the GH-13 Gimbal along with a Nikon D700 and Nikkor 300mm lens attached to a Nikkor 1.7 teleconverter. Because my tripod is a little on the short side, I was also experimenting with some longer legs I fabricated for it.

For the tripod, the added height was great! Unfortunately, with the longer legs the tripod was too unstable to be of much use. The GH-13 Gimbal functioned perfectly even though I was in a pouring rain storm. I usually don’t cover my camera but the rain was such that this time, I grabbed the cover for my camera bag and put it over the camera, lens, and gimbal.

During my week I saw only two Sharp-Tailed Grouse– a male and a female. I was unable to catch them on film. I did capture some birds and snakes. Yes, snakes! I uncovered a fallen board that I thought might either be a sign or target. It was a target. The snakes were resting under the board and much like my cats, would rather have been left alone.

I hope you enjoy the pictures and some of the uses of the GH-13 Gimbal.
